Flooding

As at least some of you know, I attend school at BYU-I up in Rexburg, Idaho.  Anyway, about 2 weeks ago right before finals week we had a flash flood.  I'll be honest, I had no idea that there had been a flood until someone came into the school building where I was working on a project and told everyone there that we had to leave because they were turning off the power in a couple of minutes.
However, once I left the building and got to my apartment, I saw so many pictures of the devastation that had happened to so many people via social media.  There were pictures of basement apartments with water past doorknobs signaling that those who lived there had lost everything.  Homes had had windows broken allowing water to just pour into basements.  At least 2 school buildings had water damage, and this water damage had caused electrical fires in at least 1 of those buildings.
But amid all the pictures of the damage caused, there were just as many, if not more, pictures of people helping.  Countless students lined up and created a reverse water brigade, getting water out of apartments and onto the street.  People were offering food, clothes, and a place to sleep for those who had been affected.
Classes were still held the next day in all but one of the school buildings, and in my first class it was fascinating to hear what other people had witnessed.  One girl said that in their apartment complex, when the flooding started, the neighbors started breaking into the basement apartments if someone wasn't home.  This wasn't to steal anything, but to help get valuables out of people's homes before they were ruined.  Others told stories of people working together in order to divert flood water from basement apartments.  Still others told stories of people making dinner for those who weren't able to because they were either helping in some other capacity or had their apartment flooded.
This made me proud to live in a place where people were so willing to help out wherever they could.

Go out and make the world a little better.
